History
of the College
The College opened in 1993, following the amalgamation of
the Colleges of St Bede's [Mthata] and St Paul's [Grahamstown].
Although the buildings and location were inherited from St
Paul's, our growth has been marked by the spirit, motives
and perceptions that sustained both former colleges.
There was a need to develop a new identity and ethos, hence
the name: The College of the Transfiguration. The first staff
and students had the joy and privilege of being God's instruments
in this journey of faith.
Each year in the life of our College, staff and students
embark afresh on this journey, as they seek to find themselves
and one another. In this journey, life at the College of
the Transfiguration mirrors the life and development of the
'new' South Africa.
Looking back, we learn more about ourselves in relation
to others. Through joy and sorrow, healing and reconciliation,
struggle and commitment, unity is continually forged amidst
diversity. In this way, life at College prepares students
for the ever changing and challenging contexts in which they
will become agents of transformation.
