Prayer Points

  1. Please join us in giving thanks for the arrival of our new rector, the Revd Barney Pityana. We trust that God will richly bless his leadership of our community.
  2. At the beginning of this new year, as we form a new community in which we will be formed, informed, and transformed, we thank God for those who have gone before us, for our retired rector, the Revd Canon Dr Bill Domeris and the students who completed their studies in 2010.
  3. We pray for all our students as they embark upon this year of study and formation with us. May the Spirit of God work within them wherever they touch other people’s lives this year.
  4. We thank God for our partners, local, national, and international, who enrich the life of our community through their gifts of time, skills, and resources.
  5. God, we give you thanks for providing the College and its students with donations from many generous people and grant making bodies, may such gifts continue to aid us in task of forming good, able and holy priests.
  6. As we look to the future we pray that you would grant wisdom to our new rector, the Revd Professor Barney Pityana, the Board of the College, the Advisory Board on Theological Education, the Synod of Bishops, and Archbishop Thabo Makgoba. We give thanks that our Rector’s presentation at the Synod of Bishops was well received and that the vision it encapsulated enjoyed the enthusiastic support of the house of bishops. We hope that this vision will be implemented with God’s richest blessing.
  7. We continue to ask God to motivate the people of the Anglican Church of Southern Africa, together with our brothers and sisters in the Anglican Communion and the wider Church, to give generously to the improvement of our buildings and facilities.
  8. We pray for all the staff members at our College. May they be filled with the passion of God and the zest to go beyond their call of duty.
  9. We pray for our community and the world community. For all who suffer and are in need. May they be aware of God’s love protecting and guiding them in whatever situation they might find themselves.
  10. We pray for the war torn and disease ridden areas of our world. May all those affected receive from God and their communities both Spiritual and Social strength and resources to fight war and disease and its causes.
  11. We pray that God will bring justice to those areas of our world which are torn apart by political division. At this time we especially remember Egypt, Zimbabwe, and the Ivory Coast.
  12. Please pray that each day we are able to break down barriers of prejudice, fear, stigma and complacency which hinder us towards mutual understanding and respect amongst people of different cultures, understandings, religions, and backgrounds.

Cross in my pocket

I carry a cross in my pocket
A simple reminder to me
Of the fact that I am a Christian
No matter where I may be.

This little cross is not magic
Nor is it a good luck charm.
It isn't meant to protect me
From every physical harm.

It's not for identification
For all the world to see.
It's simply an understanding
Between my Saviour and me.

When I put my hand in my pocket
To bring out a coin or key.
The cross is there to remind me
Of the price He paid for me.

It reminds me, too, to be thankful
For my blessings day by day
And strive to serve Him better
In all that I do and say.

It's also a daily reminder
Of the peace and comfort I share
With all who know my master
And give themselves to His care.

So, I carry a cross in my pocket
Reminding no one but me
That Jesus Christ is Lord of my life
If only I'll let Him be.
